Luciano Furlanetto (Honorary Chairman of AIMAN) closed with a presentation of the results of Research into Maintenance obtained in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Administration and Innovation.
On 2nd December at 10am in the Aurelia Room, a seminar took place entitled “A Focus on the dual role of the UAS”, organized by CESMA (Centre for Aeronautical Military Studies). It put a perspective on the issues linked to implementing activities that involve UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) in Italy, in order to establish, if not a national road map, at least a synergic approach among the various players. Today, such systems have become essential to “non-air” military operations and a useful tool for special national events. In the future, they will be essential for important missions also in other areas such as security (border, airport or oil pipeline controls) and in the civil field (environmental control and surveillance). UAS are also eco-friendly, since they help to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions into the air while considerably reducing the risks of losing human lives. Many companies are involved while numerous countries have already devised appropriate road maps, planning investments in research in line with well-defined goals. At the European level, the EDA has shown interest in coordinating activities throughout Europe in order to achieve complete use of UAS also in non-segregated airspace. In Italy – according to what emerged during the seminar – coordination of efforts and investments are still lacking. After the welcome address by Gen. Giambortolo Parisi (Chairman of Nazionale Associazione Arma Aeronautica – Italian Air Force Association), an introductory address was made by Gen. Giancarlo Naldi (CEO of CESMA), followed by a keynote address from Gen. Paolo Magro (Chief of Staff of III Defence Department). Talks were given by: Amm. Lucio Accardo (CESMA Technical/Scientific Committee), Gen. Giovanni Fantuzzi (Chief of Staff of III Aeronautics Department) on the Potential Military Role; Lorenzo Ragona (Ministry of the Interior) on the Potential Security Role, and Col. Giampiero Sanfilippo (Civil Protection Department) closed with an interesting talk on the Potential Civil Role.
Also on 2nd December at 12pm in the Aurelia Room, Ing, Ludovico Vecchione of CIRA (Centre of Italian Aerospace Research) spoke about Technological Challenges, followed by Ing. Carmine Cifaldi (ENAC), who dealt with Non-technological Challenges.

Talks followed by T. Col. Andrea De Candido (EDA - European Defence Agency) on the Role of the EDA, and Col. Ferdinando Sparpaglia (USAM) on the Role of ATM agencies.
The final conference at the I.A.E. event took place on 2nd December at 3pm in the Aurelia Room on the theme of “Technological Research”.
